Indigenous Engagement
Building Together Through Respect, Partnership, and Opportunity
ABOUT OUR INDIGENOUS ENGAGEMENT
Lakeland Log & Timber is committed to working collaboratively with First Nations and Métis communities across Saskatchewan and beyond. Our approach to Indigenous engagement is grounded in respect, long-term partnership, and meaningful participation throughout every stage of a project.
We recognize the deep cultural significance of log and timber structures and their traditional importance to many Indigenous peoples. By listening, learning, and building together, we aim to support community-led development that reflects local values, knowledge, and aspirations.
Our Commitment to Indigenous Communities

Lakeland believes reconciliation is an ongoing responsibility. Our leadership team has worked extensively with Indigenous communities, Chiefs, and Councils, building trusted relationships based on transparency, collaboration, and shared goals.
Our guiding principles align with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action, specifically:
Call to Action #7
Education, training, and skills development
Call to Action #92
Economic reconciliation; Indigenous participation in business
Indigenous Training & Employment Opportunities
Lakeland is a proud member of the Indigenous Training Centre (ITC)
ITC provides trades-based training and employment pathways for Indigenous people across Saskatchewan. Through this membership, we actively support Indigenous businesses and community capacity-building.

Our involvement with ITC has helped:
Build local workforce capacity
Deliver hands-on trades training
Create on-employment opportunities
Support long-term skills development
Featured Indigenous-Led Projects
Muskowekwan Family Healing and Wellness Centre
One of Lakeland’s most significant projects is the Muskowekwan Family Healing and Wellness Centre, designed to support holistic health and community well-being.
This facility allows for traditional birthing practices within the community, developed with direct input from Elders, Knowledge Keepers, birth experts, midwives, and health professionals. The centre reflects a balance between cultural tradition and modern functionality.
Southend Cultural Centre
Lakeland constructed the Southend Cultural Centre for a remote First Nations community in Northern Saskatchewan. The facility provides a centralized space for:
- Cultural gatherings and events
- Education and youth programming
- Land-based training and knowledge sharing
Designed for northern conditions and community use, the Southend Cultural Centre supports cultural continuity and local connection.

Let’s Build Capacity Together
Lakeland is always open to new partnerships with First Nations and Métis communities.
If your community is planning a log or timber project, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss how we can support training, skills development, and employment opportunities for your members.
